LEVEL 3
PERSONAL TRAINER (v1.1)
The Personal Trainer Apprenticeship Assessment Explained
The role of a Personal Trainer is to coach clients, on a one-to-one and small group basis, towards their health and fitness goals.
Through the design and delivery of creative, personalised exercise programmes, nutritional advice, and lifestyle management, Personal Trainers support clients to make positive behavioural changes and improve overall wellbeing. They provide tailored advice within their scope of practice and recognise when to refer clients to appropriate professionals (e.g. physiotherapists, registered dietitians, medical specialists).
A strong understanding of business, finance, sales, and marketing is essential to build and retain a stable client base. Personal Trainers are typically employed within fitness or leisure centres or may be self-employed, often working evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
This occupation operates within a sector that plays a key role in improving national health by enabling more people to be active more often.
Timeline
The apprenticeship typically takes 15-18 months to complete, with assessment typically undertaken in the final 3 months.
