LEVEL 2
ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT (v2.0)
The Administration Assistant Apprenticeship Assessment Explained
Administration assistants work across organisations of all sizes in the public, private and charitable sectors. Their skills support the everyday tasks and processes that help teams and organisations run efficiently.
The core purpose of an administration assistant is to carry out routine administrative tasks under supervision, following established procedures. They support colleagues with activities such as maintaining records, entering and retrieving data, producing documents, and organising meetings and events.
In practice, administration assistants use digital systems and software to handle information accurately and securely. They communicate with colleagues, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders, using professional language and communication methods appropriate to the situation.
The role requires organisation, attention to detail and flexibility. Administration assistants review priorities with their supervisor, complete allocated tasks within agreed timescales and raise concerns when an issue falls outside their responsibilities. They respond to feedback, develop their skills and respect the confidentiality of organisational and personal information.
Timeline
The apprenticeship typically takes 12 months. Assessment can take place at appropriate points during the programme, rather than only at the end.
For additional information about this apprenticeship assessment, read the Level 2 Administration Assistant Apprenticeship Assessment Plan.

Assessment methods
01
Portfolio
A portfolio is a required part of the apprenticeship assessment. It provides evidence of the apprentice’s knowledge and skills against the assessment outcomes.
02
Question and answer session
The apprentice answers questions about their administrative work to demonstrate their knowledge and skills against the requirements of the standard.
The assessment organisation sets the assessments and determines how the methods cover the required outcomes.
